- Plane: Cessna 172 (4877J)
- Lesson: pattern work, landings
- Duration: 2.5 hours
More take offs and landings. We got quite a few in today.
Today felt like a really good day. I’m starting to feel much more comfortable in the plane. I don’t have to think so much about everything. It’s starting to become intuitive, which makes practicing landings much easier.
I’m starting to get the flare/round out. The trouble I’ve been having is that I pull up too much, so Robert says ” Not so much.” Then I start to not flare enough. Then Robert says ” You’re coming down too fast, you need to pull up more.” I’m getting it, though.
Another problem I think I solved today, is that in the past, I’ve been hyper focused on keeping the plane above 60 when I’m coming in on final. When I’m over the threshold, it felt uncomfortable to pull the plane level, which is going to slow it down below 60. It’s okay though, once I’m over the threshold, 60 is out the window. Once I’m over the threshold, I need to level the plane, let it come down, but hold the landing off as long as I can. (I need to make sure I’m in ground affect before pulling the plane level, though. I shouldn’t do it if I’ve come in super high over the threshold.)
