Flying Lesson Thirty Nine

  • Plane: Cessna 172 (733TP)
  • Lesson: Flew to Glencoe
  • Duration: 2.5 hours

I Flew to Glencoe today. It was the first day I have flown somewhere on my own. Someone switched one of my usual planes to 733TP. I didn’t like it. I don’t like the way it handles. It has a Garmin 430 in it. I’m more used to the Garmin 650. I also couldn’t get the Ipad to sync up with ADSB, so I didn’t have traffic on my Ipad.

Coming in on my landing at Flying Cloud my turn from base to final scared me. I was a bit low. I also overshot the runway just a bit, so I was turning back while trying to not turn too steep while trying to gain a little altitude while trying to keep my speed above 60. Right in my turn a big gust hit me and tipped the plane to steep for comfort. I’m not trying to blame the plane, I could have done things differently, such as not over shoot the runway, not get low, and not get slow, but with that said, I still don’t like the plane.

I don’t care what anyone says about flying a tight rectangular pattern, I am always going to round out my base to final.

Other than that though, it was a good day. I enjoyed being out there all by myself.
